Blepharoplasty & Brow Lift Recovery

April 9, 2026

If you are considering a blepharoplasty, a brow lift, or a combination of both, understanding the recovery process will allow you to approach your procedure with confidence.

At Natural State Aesthetics, we believe recovery should feel as supported and personalized as the procedure itself.

Are Blepharoplasty and Brow Lift Recoveries Similar?

In short, yes with a few important distinctions. Because both procedures address the upper face, their recoveries often overlap. However, each heals somewhat differently.

When performed together, this combined approach addresses eyelid heaviness while simultaneously lifting the brow for a more complete, harmonious outcome.

What They Have in Common

-Swelling and bruising

-Mild discomfort or a sensation of tightness

-One to two weeks of social downtime

-Gradual, natural improvement over several weeks

Where They Differ

-Blepharoplasty recovery is typically localized to the eyelid area

-Brow lift recovery involves the forehead and scalp

-Brow lift patients may experience tightness or temporary numbness in the scalp

-Swelling from a brow lift may extend into the upper eye area

When both procedures are performed together, recovery time remains consistent, typically two to three weeks.

Blepharoplasty & Brow Lift Recovery Timeline

Days 1–3: Early Healing and Rest

The initial recovery period focuses on rest and gentle care. During the first few days following surgery, it is normal to experience:

-Swelling, bruising, and redness (swelling typically peaks between days two and five)

-A sensation of tightness or pressure

-Temporary blurred vision or watery eyes

To support healing, we recommend applying cold compresses to reduce swelling and avoiding strenuous activity, alcohol, and smoking. These symptoms are temporary and an expected part of the healing process.

Week 1: Early Improvement

By the end of the first week, most patients begin to notice meaningful improvement:

-Bruising may peak before it begins to fade; following a brow lift, it is common for bruising to migrate downward across the face rather than remain localized near the incision site

-Sutures are typically removed at your postoperative appointment

-Swelling begins to decrease

-Most patients report feeling more like themselves

Light activity such as walking is encouraged; however, exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided. Many patients feel comfortable appearing in public toward the end of this phase, often with sunglasses or light makeup if approved by your provider.

Week 2: Returning to Daily Activities

This is when your blepharoplasty or brow lift results become much more noticeable.

-Swelling continues to decrease significantly

-Residual bruising is often minimal and can be concealed with makeup

-Most patients return to work and social activities

-You may start wearing make up and washing your face like normal

Some patients may still experience mild tightness, particularly following a brow lift, or subtle residual swelling. Both continue to resolve steadily throughout this period.

Weeks 3–4: Refinement Phase

At this stage, most of the visible healing is behind you. You’ll look more like yourself, swelling will continue to resolve, and incisions soften within natural creases or the hairline.

For brow lift patients, this is typically when hair coloring and salon treatments may be resumed, depending on incision healing. We’ll guide you on the exact timing during your follow up visits.

1–3 Months: Final Results

At this stage of your healing, your swelling will be largely resolved, scars will continue to fade, and your final results will be more visible.

Every patient’s recovery is slightly different, but having a clear understanding of a blepharoplasty and brow lift recovery timeline can make the process feel much more manageable. Our goal is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and comfortable from consultation through recovery.
