Surgical FAQ
Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?
If you’re hoping to use insurance for your visit or procedure, a referral from your eye doctor is required. Without it, we’ll consider your visit a cosmetic consultation. If you’re unsure, give us a call and we’ll help guide you through the process.
What should I expect during my surgical consultation?
During your consultation, Dr. Heymann will talk through your goals and examine the area of concern. You’ll receive personalized recommendations and have a chance to ask all your questions — plus, we’ll show before-and-after photos to help you envision your results. You’ll leave with a clear plan tailored just for you.
Will my eyes be dilated at the appointment?
Most of the time, no. If your visit relates to some functional concerns — like thyroid eye disease or an orbital mass — dilation may be performed during your visit.
How long will my office visit take?
Most visits are wrapped up in about an hour. To help us stay on time, please complete your paperwork in advance and arrive promptly. We respect your time and work hard to keep your experience efficient and personalized.
How do I know if I’m a good candidate for surgery?
The best way to find out is with a personalized consultation. We’ll take a close look at your medical history, goals, and anatomy to determine what’s safe and effective for you.
What are the risks and complications?
All surgery carries some degree of risk — including infection, bleeding, scarring, and anesthesia-related concerns. That said, we take every precaution to keep you safe and minimize complications. We’ll go over all potential risks during your consultation so you feel informed and confident moving forward.
How can I get an estimate?
We’ll give you a personalized quote during your consultation, based on your treatment plan. If the procedure is cosmetic, we’ll go over pricing and financing options. If it’s medically necessary, we’ll verify your insurance benefits and help you understand any out-of-pocket costs.
What should I wear on the day of surgery?
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing — preferably something that buttons or zips in the front.
Preparing for Surgery
How do I prepare for surgery?
You’ll receive detailed pre-op instructions. Here are a few common tips: avoid certain medications or supplements, fast the night before, and plan to have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you after surgery. We’ll walk you through everything during your consultation so you feel ready.
Can I take my regular medications before surgery?
Some medications are perfectly fine — others may need to be paused. We’ll review your full list during your pre-op visit and let you know what’s safe to continue and what to hold.
What type of anesthesia will be used?
That depends on your procedure. We use local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia as needed.
Do I need a driver?
Yes. If you’re having any type of procedure with sedation or anesthesia, you must have someone drive you home. For safety reasons, you can’t drive yourself. We also recommend having a trusted adult stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
How many days after surgery will I need help?
For most of the surgeries at Natural State Aesthetics we recommend having someone with you for the first 24 hours. After that, most patients are able to return to their daily activities.
Can I combine multiple procedures into one surgery?
Absolutely— and it can be a great way to reduce total downtime and achieve more comprehensive results. We’ll talk through what’s safe, effective, and right for you during your consultation.
Can I get Botox or filler before or after surgery?
In many cases, we recommend waiting until after surgery for your next injectable treatment. Non-surgical treatments like Botox or filler can complement your surgical results beautifully. We’ll help you create a personalized timeline —and if we recommend waiting or adjusting treatment, we’ll guide you every step of the way.
After Surgery
How long will I look “crazy” after surgery?
We get this one a lot! Depending on your procedure, you may experience swelling, bruising, or redness for the first 1–2 weeks. If you’re having laser resurfacing at the same time, healing may take closer to 3–4 weeks. Most patients are surprised by how quickly they start to look and feel more like themselves again.
Will I be in pain after surgery?
Most patients describe the discomfort as mild to moderate — think soreness, tightness, or swelling. We’ll give you detailed pain management instructions and prescriptions if needed, and we’re just a call away if anything feels off.
How long is the recovery time?
That depends on the procedure and your personal healing speed. Some patients are back to normal within a few days, while others take a few weeks to fully recover. We’ll give you a clear timeline based on your surgery and lifestyle so you know exactly what to expect.
When can I return to work after surgery?
It varies. Many patients return to work within 1–2 weeks, but this depends on your job and the type of surgery. We’ll tailor your return-to-work plan based on how physical your job is and how you’re healing.
What should I avoid during recovery?
Avoid heavy lifting, intense workouts, alcohol, and smoking until we give you the greenlight. We’ll also ask you to avoid certain skincare products or sun exposure depending on your procedure.
What medications will I need after surgery?
You may be prescribed pain relievers, antibiotics, or other supportive meds. We’ll give you everything you need to stay comfortable and heal safely — and we’ll go over the full list ahead of time.
What should I do if I have a complication after surgery?
If anything feels off — like excessive pain, bleeding, or fever — call us right away. Our team is here for you and will guide you through what’s normal and what may need attention.
Will I have scars after surgery?
Dr. Heymann uses advanced techniques to minimize visibility of the incision. Incisions are placed strategically and we’ll give you guidance on scar care as you heal.
How many follow-up visits will I need?
Typically, you’ll come in for a couple follow-ups to check on healing and answer any questions. The exact schedule depends on your procedure.
When will I see the final results?
Initial results are often noticeable right away, but it can take several weeks or months for swelling to fully subside and final results to appear. We’ll help you track your progress and make sure everything is on track as you heal.
How long do the results last?
While nothing stops aging altogether, surgical results are long-lasting. Results can be maintained with good skincare and healthy habits.
Insurance and Pricing
How much does cosmetic surgery cost?
Every patient and procedure is different, so we provide personalized pricing at the end of your consultation. If you’re a good candidate, you’ll leave with a clear, itemized quote — no pressure, no guesswork.
Will insurance cover this?
That depends on whether your surgery is medically necessary or cosmetic. We’re happy to verify your insurance benefits at your consultation and explain exactly what’s covered and what’s not.
Do you accept my insurance?
We work with many insurance plans for procedures deemed medically necessary. For purely cosmetic services, insurance does not apply. Contact us with your details and we’ll confirm coverage before your visit.
Why do I still owe after my visit?
We do our best to provide an accurate quote before you schedule your surgery. After your insurance processes the claim, you may owe for a deductible, coinsurance, or non-covered service. We’ll send you a detailed statement so you understand exactly what’s owed.
Why are we collecting more than what my copay is?
Copays cover only part of your total cost. We collect an estimated amount upfront to reduce surprise bills — and we’ll refund any overpayment once your insurance finalizes the claim.
Why do I have to pay two places?
Natural State Aesthetics, the surgery center, and anesthesia are separate entities. We’ll collect our portion ahead of time, while the surgery center will collect theirs on the day of your procedure. If anesthesia bills separately, they’ll send that to you directly. We’ll explain all costs in advance so you’re never caught off guard.

Do you offer financing?
Yes! We offer flexible financing options through Cherry and Care Credit. You can ask the surgery coordinator about these options during your consultation.
Non-Surgical FAQ
What does a consult entail?
A non-surgical consult at Natural State Aesthetics is all about you. We’ll start by listening to your goals, concerns, and any questions you may have. From there, your provider will assess your features, skin quality, and facial dynamics before discussing tailored treatment options — including injectables, laser facials, or skincare.
You’ll leave with a personalized plan that fits your goals, lifestyle, and comfort level.
If skin quality is your main concern, we might recommend starting with a Planty Plus+ Facial — a treatment + consult in one. During this session, your esthetician will assess your skin in real time and send you home with a custom skincare routine and treatment plan.

Can I get treatment the same day as my consult?
In many cases, yes! If you’re a good candidate and time allows, we can often treat you right after your consult. We never rush — your comfort and results always come first. If same-day treatment isn’t a fit, we’ll help you schedule the perfect time to come back.
Will I be charged to reschedule?
We completely understand that plans can change. If you need to reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a $50 cancellation fee. We value our providers' time and also yours — we never double-book patients and want each visit to feel unrushed and personalized. We’re always happy to help find a new time that works best for you.
Can I bring a friend or my child to my appointment?
You’re welcome to bring one guest with you to your appointment. If you need to bring a child, please know they must be able to sit quietly in the treatment room with you for the duration of your visit. We want to ensure a safe, calm environment for you and all our patients.
What makes Natural State Aesthetics different from other medspas?
At Natural State Aesthetics, you really do get the best of both worlds — the relaxing vibe of a spa with the skill and safety of an MD-led team. Our injectors and laser techs are plastic surgery trained, so our treatments are rooted in safety. You are in good hands. But it’s more than just the treatments. Our values shape everything we do: we believe in natural, beautiful results, honest guidance, and taking great care of our patients.
Which treatments are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
We love our moms and moms-to-be! While we pause injectables like filler and neuromodulators during pregnancy and breastfeeding, there are still plenty of ways to care for your skin and feel your best.
A Planty Plus+ Facial each trimester is a gentle, nourishing way to support your skin during pregnancy. We also love the Epicutis skincare line — a luxurious, low-ingredient routine that’s safe, simple, and effective (pregnant or not).
And don’t worry — your glow-up can wait. Our gift cards and packages never expire, so you can take a break from higher-level treatments now and return when the time is right. We'll be here to welcome you back with open arms.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my consult?
It’s helpful to come to your consultation with a clean, makeup-free face to allow for a thorough assessment of your skin and treatment areas. Additionally, be prepared to discuss your goals, medical history, and any questions you may have about the procedure.
How long does a consult take?
A consultation typically takes about an hour, which usually includes time to discuss your goals and assess your needs; if the treatment cannot be done during this time, we can schedule a separate appointment for it.
What if I’m not sure what I need — can I still book a consult?
Yes, you can still book a consultation even if you're unsure of what you need. It’s the provider’s responsibility to assess your concerns and recommend gold-standard treatment options, along with home care suggestions, to help you achieve your goals.
Laser Facials
What is a "laser facial" — and how is it different from a regular facial?
Our “laser facials” are the ultimate experience! They combine cutting-edge heat-based technology with a relaxing spa vibe, giving you results that regular facials and at-home care just can’t match. Plus, we love stacking our favorite devices to customize your treatment for even more amazing results! On our menu, you’ll find two of our top laser facials: “Pigment Be Gone” for those stubborn sun spots and melasma, and the “Bright and Tight Ultimate Laser Trio” to help reverse signs of aging like laxity, fine lines, and age spots.
What high-tech devices power your "laser facials"?
Forever Young BBL® (BroadBand Light) is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses advanced intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to target signs of aging and sun damage. Unlike traditional IPL, Forever Young BBL® not only improves the skin’s appearance but also triggers molecular changes in skin cells, helping them behave more like youthful cells.

A landmark 2012 study from Stanford University, revealed that regular BBL treatments could actually reverse signs of aging at the genetic level. This translated into more than just cosmetic benefits—skin treated with BBL began to function more youthfully, with increased collagen production and improved skin integrity. Remarkably, individuals who received regular BBL treatments over a 10-year period often appeared younger than when they started, showing little to no visible aging.

Will my laser facial hurt?
Let’s be real: some of our laser facials are intense — and they work because they go deep. Tightening treatments like Opus can be uncomfortable, even with numbing, while others (like BBL) feel more like a quick rubber band snap or gentle heat.
We always apply a medical-grade topical numbing cream to help keep you as comfortable as possible, and if you're having a more advanced treatment, we can offer medication to help you relax. Just a heads-up: if you opt for that, you'll need to bring a driver who stays onsite during your appointment.
Discomfort is temporary, and the results — smoother, firmer, brighter skin — are absolutely worth it.

How long will my laser facial take — and will I get spa vibes or clinical vibes?
Depending on the treatment you choose, a laser facial typically lasts between 60 to 120 minutes. Each session includes all the luxurious elements you’d expect from a traditional facial, making your experience not only effective but also super enjoyable!
Is there downtime for laser facials?
After your laser facial, it is normal to experience some redness that may have a sunburn feeling. Depending on the device used and your skin type, you might notice a bit of redness and roughness for up to a week. To help your skin heal, we recommend avoiding exercise and sweating for a few days. And don’t forget—protecting your fresh, glowing (almost baby-like) skin from the sun is super important after your treatment!
How should I prepare for a laser facial?
Please avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment — this is very important for your safety and best results. If you arrive with a tan or recent sun exposure, we may need to reschedule your treatment to protect your skin.
We also recommend stopping any retinols and exfoliants in your skincare routine a few days prior to your facial if you are having any irritation. If you have any questions about how to prep, our team is always here to help.

What is a CO2 laser and how do I know if I need it?
A CO₂ laser is an advanced skin resurfacing treatment that helps improve fine lines, wrinkles, and overall skin texture and tightness. It works by precisely removing damaged skin layers to reveal smoother, rejuvenated skin underneath.
This treatment is performed at our surgery center under IV anesthesia for your comfort. Downtime typically ranges from 10 to 14 days as your skin heals and regenerates. Many of our surgical patients choose to add a full-face CO₂ laser to their blepharoplasty — there’s truly no better time to recover and maximize your results.
If downtime is a concern, our providers will help you decide if another treatment (or a custom combination) may be a better fit for your skin’s needs and your aesthetic goals.

Will I need a series of treatments — or will I see results right away?
The number of treatments depends on your specific skin concerns and goals. For our laser facials and microneedling, we typically recommend a series of 3 to 6 sessions, spaced out over time for optimal results. Once you’ve completed your initial series, we’ll guide you on a personalized maintenance plan to help keep your skin looking radiant and healthy year-round.
Can I get a laser facial before an event or vacation?
Maybe — many patients book laser facials in the weeks or months leading up to a special event to achieve that fresh, radiant glow. But timing is key. Some treatments can cause temporary redness, flaking, or sensitivity, and you’ll need to stay out of the sun while your skin heals.
We’ll help you choose the right treatment and schedule it at the right time, so you look your best exactly when it matters most.

Which laser facial is best for my skin type?
Everyone’s skin is different, which is why we customize every treatment. Whether you're targeting sun damage, texture, redness, or simply want to boost your glow, we’ll design a laser facial protocol that aligns with your skin type, tone, and goals.
We also have devices that are safe and effective for all skin tones, and many of our treatments can be performed any time of year — so you don’t have to plan your glow around the seasons.

Microneedling
What kind of results will I see from microneedling — and when?
Microneedling helps smooth texture, soften fine lines, and reduce the appearance of acne scars — leaving your skin visibly plumper and more radiant. Results build gradually, with full benefits typically seen 4 to 6 weeks after treatment. We recommend starting with a series of three — what we call our Plump & Glow Microneedling series — for optimal collagen stimulation and long-term glow.
Why is everyone talking about microneedling?
Microneedling is one of the most-loved treatments for a reason — it delivers real results with minimal downtime. By creating tiny micro-injuries in the skin, it jumpstarts your body’s natural collagen production, helping to soften fine lines, improve acne scars, and visibly boost texture and glow.
It’s safe for nearly all skin types, can be done year-round, and leaves skin smoother, plumper, and healthier-looking.
It’s safe for nearly all skin types, can be done year-round, and leaves skin smoother, plumper, and healthier-looking.
Can microneedling help with acne scars or large pores?
Yes! Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments for improving acne scars, refining pore size, and smoothing uneven texture. By stimulating collagen and elastin production deep in the skin, it helps resurface and regenerate from within — leaving skin more even, refined, and glowy.
What’s the difference between microneedling and a laser facial?
We love both — and often recommend them as part of a comprehensive skin plan — but they work in different ways.
Microneedling stimulates collagen by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin. It’s safe for almost all skin types, can be done year-round, and is especially effective for improving fine lines, acne scars, and overall texture.
Laser facials, on the other hand, use advanced heat- and light-based technology to treat pigmentation, redness, texture, and skin laxity. These devices require additional training and certification, and the results can be more dramatic — but they also involve more heat and, at times, more downtime.
Your provider will help determine which treatment (or combination) best supports your skin type, concerns, and goals.

Do I really need a series of microneedling treatments?
Collagen production takes time — and consistency is key. A series of three microneedling treatments, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart, helps build momentum in your skin’s natural healing process and leads to visibly smoother, firmer, more radiant skin.
Each session builds on the last, stimulating deeper collagen remodeling to improve fine lines, texture, and acne scars more effectively than a single treatment alone.
Think of it as a skin reset — done gradually and intentionally for results that look natural and last longer. After completing your initial Plump & Glow Microneedling series, your provider will help you create a personalized maintenance plan to keep your results glowing.

Can I combine microneedling with other treatments?
Absolutely — in fact, we often recommend it. Pairing microneedling with PRF (as in our Plump & Glow series) boosts collagen regeneration using your body’s own growth factors. It also pairs beautifully with treatments like BBL and skincare regimens to target tone and texture from multiple angles. Your provider will help you build a plan that layers treatments safely and effectively.
Is all microneedling the same? How does your treatment compare to SkinPen®?
SkinPen® is a well-known brand — much like Botox® or Kleenex® — but it’s just one type of microneedling device. At Natural State Aesthetics, we use the Exceed™ device by Candela, the first FDA-cleared microneedling system approved for treating both facial wrinkles and acne scars.
What sets it apart? Exceed™ offers precise, controlled treatments with variable needle depths. That means we can customize the depth based on the area being treated — going deeper around the cheeks and mouth, and more gently around delicate areas like the eyes.
Compared to traditional microneedling or collagen pens, Exceed delivers more predictable, thorough results with less trauma to the skin — and that means better outcomes with minimal downtime.

Does microneedling hurt?
Most patients tolerate microneedling very well. We apply a medical-grade numbing cream beforehand, which makes the treatment virtually painless for most.
Many patients describe the sensation as feeling like a “cat tongue” gently moving across the skin. Areas with thinner skin — like the forehead — tend to be the most noticeable, but overall discomfort is minimal and short-lived.
If you’re nervous, just let us know — we’ll walk you through every step and check in with you throughout the treatment.

Is there downtime after microneedling?
Microneedling is a very low-downtime treatment. Most patients experience about a day of redness and mild peeling as the skin begins to heal and regenerate.
Depending on your comfort level going makeup-free, you may feel ready to be out and about later that same day. A tinted moisturizer or light makeup can typically be applied the following day.

Botox® & Daxxify®
What can Botox® or Daxxify® actually do for me?
Botox® is a popular treatment that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for creating wrinkles and fine lines, helping you achieve a smoother and more youthful appearance.
You can use Botox® or Daxxify® on various areas, including:
- Forehead Lines: Smooth out those horizontal lines that can make you look tired.
- Crow's Feet: Reduce the fine lines around your eyes for a more refreshed look.
- Frown Lines: Erase the deep lines between your brows for a softer expression.
- Jawline Slimming: Relax the muscles in your jaw for a more contoured appearance or relieve tension from clenching.
- Lip Flip: Enhance your smile by subtly flipping the upper lip.
- Traps: Alleviate tension in your trapezius muscles for added comfort.
- Underarms: Manage excessive sweating to help you feel cool and confident.
When expertly administered, Botox® or Daxxify® soften lines while preserving your natural expressions. Our goal is always a refreshed, authentic look — never stiff or overdone.

What’s the difference between Botox® and Daxxify®?
Botox® is the most well-known neuromodulator — much like Kleenex is for tissues — but it’s not the only option. Both Botox® and Daxxify® work by relaxing targeted muscles to smooth lines and soften wrinkles.
Daxxify® is a newer alternative that stands out in a few ways: it typically sets in faster, lasts a bit longer for many patients, and gives the skin a refreshed, radiant look. It’s also the only neuromodulator formulated with peptides instead of human serum albumin, making it a vegan-friendly option.

Botox® vs. filler: What’s the difference — and do I need both?
Filler and neuromodulators do different jobs but pair perfectly together. Filler adds volume, smooths contours, and restores plumpness where you’ve lost it over time. neuromodulators — like Botox® and Daxxify® — help freeze time by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and expression lines.
Used together, they create a balanced, natural-looking refresh that softens lines and adds just the right amount of lift and fullness.

What’s the best age to start Botox® or Daxxify®?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — we see patients in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. Some start early as a preventative step to “freeze” wrinkle formation, while others begin when expression lines start to stick around. During your consultation, we’ll help you decide what makes sense based on your goals and your skin.
Will injectables like Botox® make me look frozen or unnatural?
Only if you tell them. Our goal is always to enhance — not change — how you look. Most patients just get compliments like “You look so rested!” or “Did you go on vacation?” Not “Did you get work done?”

When will I start seeing results from Daxxify® or Botox®?
Most patients begin to notice results within 3 to 7 days, with full effects visible around 10 to 14 days. We recommend waiting a full two weeks before deciding how you feel about your results — and we offer complimentary follow-up appointments to ensure everything looks just the way you love it.
How long do the results last after Botox® — and is Daxxify® really longer?
Most neuromodulators last about 3 to 4 months. We often see Daxxify® lasting 2 to 4 weeks longer than other comparable treatments (occasionally we see patients getting up to 6 months)! Everyone metabolizes the product a bit differently, so duration varies slightly from person to person.
Can I do anything to make my Botox® or Daxxify® last longer?
While everyone metabolizes neuromodulators a bit differently, there are a few things you can do to help maintain your results:
Stay consistent: Regular treatments can help train your muscles to stay relaxed longer over time.
Take care of your skin: Using good skincare and sun protection helps protect your investment.
Consider zinc: Some research suggests that healthy zinc levels may help neuromodulators work more effectively. A 2012 study found that patients who took 50 mg of zinc daily experienced longer-lasting results — possibly because botulinum toxin relies on zinc to function properly.

How much does Botox® cost — and what affects the price?
Pricing depends on the number of units needed, the areas being treated, and your muscle strength (for example, men often require more). We’ll provide a personalized quote during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
On average, treatments range from $200 to $600. Larger treatment areas — like the traps, underarms, or masseter (jaw) muscles — may require more product and cost more accordingly.

How do you determine how many units I’ll need?
The number of Botox or Daxxify units needed depends on your treatment area, muscle strength, and desired results, assessed during a consultation. Your provider will tailor the dosage based on these factors to achieve the best, safest outcome.

Most patients describe Botox® or Daxxify® injections as a quick, mild pinch — easy to tolerate and over in seconds. Some say it feels like a tiny “crunchy poke,” but discomfort is minimal, and no numbing is needed.
Is Botox® safe? What should I watch for?
Yes — neuromodulators like Botox® and Daxxify® are very safe when performed by a trained, experienced provider. Minor side effects like temporary headache or slight bruising can happen at first, but these resolve quickly. More significant side effects are extremely rare.
We always take the time to review your health history and customize your treatment to keep you safe and comfortable every step of the way.

What should I avoid after Botox® or Daxxify®?
To get the best results, avoid lying down or touching the treated area for 4 hours after your injections. We also recommend skipping exercise for 24 hours and avoiding facials or massages for about two weeks. Following these simple guidelines helps your treatment settle perfectly.
How soon can I workout or exercise after Botox®?
We recommend waiting 24 hours after facial injections before returning to strenuous exercise. This helps minimize bruising and gives the product time to settle properly, so you get the best possible results.
Can I get Botox® if I have surgery scheduled?
It’s best to chat with our team about timing. In many cases, you can absolutely have non-surgical treatments like filler or neuromodulators before surgery — but sometimes we recommend waiting or even dissolving existing under-eye filler beforehand to ensure the best surgical results. We’ll help you plan the ideal timeline during your consultation, so everything works together beautifully.
How long after surgery do I have to wait to get Botox® again?
Dr. Heymann generally recommends waiting at least two weeks after surgery before having neuromodulators injected. This allows your body time to heal properly and ensures the best, safest results. Neuromodulators like Botox® or Daxxify® after a brow lift are a great way to maintain your results. If you have any questions about timing, we’re always happy to provide personalized guidance during your consultation.
Can Botox® help with jaw clenching or TMJ?
Yes — Botox® (or Daxxify®) can be a highly effective treatment for jaw clenching, TMJ symptoms, and tension from grinding. By relaxing the overactive masseter muscles, we can reduce discomfort, soften the jawline, and even slim the lower face over time.
Many patients find that regular neuromodulator treatments in this area improve headaches, jaw tightness, and nighttime clenching — all without surgery or downtime. During your consult, we’ll assess your muscle activity and create a personalized plan to keep you comfortable and balanced.

What’s “trap tox” and why do people love it?
“Trap tox” refers to injecting Botox® into the trapezius muscles — and yes, it’s just as game-changing as it sounds. Patients love this treatment because it:
- Relieves neck and shoulder tension (especially from desk work or stress)
- Improves posture by reducing the bulk of overactive traps
- Creates a longer, more elegant neckline that’s especially noticeable in clothing
It’s a favorite among patients who want both functional relief and aesthetic refinement. Plus, it pairs beautifully with facial treatments for a polished, balanced look.

What if I don’t love my results — can anything be done?
Your satisfaction is a top priority for us. Small tweaks and changes are usually possible and we will work with you to ensure you are happy with the outcome.
How often should I come in for maintenance?
Most patients return for neuromodulator treatments every 3 to 4 months to maintain their results. Daxxify® may last a bit longer for some. Your exact schedule will depend on your metabolism, muscle strength, and how long you prefer to keep lines softened.
We’ll keep track of your timing, tweak your plan as needed, and help you stay on a rhythm that feels natural and sustainable for your goals.

Filler
What’s in filler — and how does it give you that refreshed look?
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid — a substance naturally found in your skin that helps maintain hydration and volume. As we age, we naturally lose collagen, fat, and bone support in the face, which can lead to sagging skin, hollowed cheeks, under-eye circles, and fine lines. Dermal fillers work well for adding volume and hydration to the skin. At Natural State Aesthetics, we primarily use RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) fillers because they adapt to facial dynamics, allowing for natural movement with your expressions. They typically last longer than traditional fillers which means fewer touch-ups!
How is RHA different from other fillers?
RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) fillers are designed to move with your facial expressions, which makes them especially natural-looking — even in areas of dynamic movement like around the mouth or eyes. They also tend to last longer than traditional fillers, so you can enjoy results with fewer touch-ups.
What areas can filler treat — and how do I know what I need?
Filler treatments can be used to restore lost volume and subtly enhance natural facial features, helping people look refreshed rather than altered.
Dermal fillers—when done with a conservative, skillful approach—can:
- Restore volume to areas like the cheeks, temples, and under-eyes, bringing back youthful contours without overfilling.
- Smooth out lines and folds, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, while maintaining natural facial expressions.
- Enhance features like lips or jawline in a way that complements the individual's face, rather than creating a “done” look.
The goal of natural-looking filler is not to change your appearance, but to refresh and harmonize your features, enhancing what’s already there and helping you look like a well-rested, more vibrant version of yourself. At your consultation, we’ll show you how filler can support your facial anatomy in a way that feels natural, intentional, and totally you.

How long does filler last?
Our preferred filler treatments provide results that last a minimum of 12 months. Depending on the specific area treated and the type of filler used, your results can last up to two years. When expertly done, well-placed filler typically does not require dissolving. Keep in mind that individual factors such as metabolism, lifestyle, and skincare habits can influence longevity. That’s why we personalize our recommendations to help you maintain your beautiful, natural-looking results for as long as possible.
How do I know how much filler I’ll need?
That depends on your unique facial structure, goals, and how subtle or transformative you'd like your results to be. During your consultation, we’ll assess your anatomy, review your goals together, and build a personalized plan — whether it’s a subtle tweak or a full-face refresh. You’ll never be pressured, and we’ll always keep your results natural.
Will injectables like filler make me look overdone or unnatural?
Not when performed by a skilled, experienced injector. Our goal is always subtle, natural enhancement — never a “frozen” or overdone look. Every treatment is customized to highlight your unique features and help you look like the best version of yourself.
Can filler help with sagging skin — or do I need something else too?
Filler can help restore lost volume and provide a subtle lift in key areas. However, achieving the most natural, youthful results often involves a personalized plan — which may include pairing filler with advanced laser facials and a thoughtful at-home skincare routine. During your consultation, we’ll design a treatment plan tailored specifically to your skin’s needs and your aesthetic goals.
Does getting filler hurt?
Most patients feel a mild pinch or pressure during filler injections. For extra-sensitive areas like the lips, we offer a dental block to keep you completely comfortable. (Look for our “Painless” Full Lip or Mini Lip on the menu!)
If you’re nervous, you’re not alone — and we get it. Many of our patients are new to filler, and our providers are skilled at walking you through the process with care, patience, and plenty of reassurance. We’ll talk through everything step by step so you feel calm, informed, and in control the whole time.

What is filler migration — and should I be worried?
Filler migration happens when product slowly moves outside the area it was originally injected. It’s often the result of overfilling, poor placement, or using the wrong type of filler in a delicate area. It can also happen as a result of frequent movement in the area (like puckering or overusing straws after lip filler). Everyone’s facial structure is different, and certain areas are more prone to migration — and while it’s not dangerous, it can lead to puffiness or an unnatural look.
At Natural State Aesthetics, we primarily use RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) fillers, which are specially formulated to move with your expressions — not beyond them. Thanks to their cohesive structure and advanced cross-linking, RHA fillers are designed to stay where we place them, giving you more natural-looking, reliable results.
Best of all, our providers use a conservative, artful approach — so your filler complements your facial anatomy without ever looking overdone.

What if I don’t love my filler — can it be reversed or dissolved?
Yes — most hyaluronic acid fillers can be safely dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. If you ever want to adjust or remove filler, we’re here to guide you through the process and ensure you feel completely comfortable with your results.
Is there downtime or bruising after filler?
Mild swelling or bruising is possible, but most patients look and feel back to normal within 24 hours as swelling subsides. Final results take about two weeks to fully settle, which is why we schedule a complimentary follow-up appointment at the two-week mark to ensure everything looks beautifully balanced.
What should I avoid after filler?
After filler, a few simple precautions help ensure the best results:
For lip filler: Avoid using straws, vaping, or smoking for at least 24 hours
For all filler treatments: Sleep on your back the first night to avoid putting pressure on the treated areas, and skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Following these tips helps your filler settle beautifully and minimizes swelling or bruising.

Biostimulators
What makes biostimulators different from traditional fillers?
Biostimulators are injectables that work by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production over time. Rather than simply adding volume like traditional dermal fillers, biostimulators help your skin rebuild its own structure and firmness from within.
Think of dermal fillers (like RHA or Juvederm) as adding instant volume or contour — great for areas like lips or cheeks. Biostimulators (like Sculptra or Radiesse) take a regenerative approach, gradually improving skin texture, elasticity, and fullness by boosting collagen levels.
We often use both — fillers for immediate, targeted results, and biostimulators for long-term skin health and natural aging support.

Am I a good candidate for biostimulators?
If you're noticing early signs of volume loss, skin thinning, or crepiness — but want natural-looking results without looking “filled” — biostimulators may be a great fit. These treatments are ideal for patients who want to age gracefully, improve skin quality, and support long-term collagen health.
How long do biostimulators last?
Biostimulators like PRF, Sculptra and Radiesse don’t just fill — they help your body rebuild collagen. Results from these treatments typically last 12 to 24 months, depending on the product and area treated. With regular maintenance, many patients enjoy long-lasting improvements with fewer touch-ups over time.
How soon will I see results from biostimulators?
Biostimulators work gradually, so you won’t see an immediate change like you would with filler. Most patients start noticing subtle improvements in 6–8 weeks, with full results appearing around 3–6 months as collagen production builds. The payoff? Long-lasting, natural-looking results that evolve beautifully over time.
Where do you use biostimulators vs. fillers?
Biostimulators and fillers are both injectable treatments, but we use them in different areas — and for different purposes — depending on what your skin needs.
Biostimulators (like Sculptra, Radiesse, and PRF) work by stimulating your body’s own collagen and elastin production over time. These are ideal for areas where you want to improve skin quality, firmness, and long-term structure rather than add instant volume.
We commonly use them:
-In the lower face and jawline to improve skin firmness and definition
-Along the cheeks and temples to gradually restore volume
-In the neck and décolleté to tighten crepey skin and boost collagen
-In the hands to smooth thinning, aging skin
-PRF gel is used in delicate areas like the under-eyes and mid-face for natural volume restoration and skin rejuvenation
- PRF liquid is used with microneedling or in superficial injections to enhance glow and stimulate collagen
Dermal fillers (like RHA or Juvederm) provide instant volume and contour, making them ideal for areas with more visible structural loss or where precision is key.
We commonly use them:
-In the lips to add shape and hydration
-In the cheeks for lift and contour
-In the under-eyes to soften hollows or shadows
-Around the nasolabial folds (smile lines) or marionette lines for immediate smoothing
While fillers create structure and volume instantly, biostimulators (especially when layered with PRF) help improve skin health and longevity over time. Often, the best results come from a combination — tailored to your anatomy and long-term goals.

What’s the difference between Radiesse and Sculptra?
Both Radiesse and Sculptra are biostimulators — injectable treatments that stimulate your body’s own collagen production over time.
- Radiesse provides a subtle immediate lift and also works long-term by triggering collagen production. It's especially effective in areas like the lower face, neck, and hands.
- Sculptra works more gradually, building volume over several months. It’s ideal for full-face collagen support, temple hollowing, and softening deeper facial folds.
We’ll help you decide which is best for your goals — in many cases, we use both as part of a personalized regenerative treatment plan.

How can I treat aging or volume loss in my hands?
Radiesse is one of our favorite options for restoring volume and smoothing the appearance of aging hands. It not only replenishes lost fullness but also stimulates collagen production over time, improving skin texture and firmness.
What are the best options for treating neck lines and crepey skin?
We often use hyperdilute Radiesse or PRF injections in the neck to improve texture, elasticity, and crepey skin. These treatments work by stimulating collagen and elastin, leading to smoother, firmer skin over time — with little to no downtime.
Can biostimulators be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely. Biostimulators pair beautifully with treatments like microneedling, PRF, and neuromodulators for a more comprehensive, regenerative approach. Your provider will design a custom plan to support collagen, contour, and overall skin health.
What is PRF?
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is a natural biostimulator because it uses your body’s own platelets and growth factors to stimulate collagen and elastin production. PRF is 100% autologous — meaning it comes from your own blood.
We love PRF because it supports healing, improves skin texture, and enhances volume in a subtle, regenerative way. It can be used on its own or paired with microneedling or filler for even more impactful results.

What’s the difference between PRF gel and PRF liquid?
PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) uses your own blood’s growth factors to support natural healing and collagen production.
- PRF liquid is ideal for microneedling or superficial injections — it flows easily and works well across broader surface areas.
- PRF gel has a thicker consistency, more like a natural filler, and is perfect for targeted volume restoration in delicate areas like under the eyes or the jawline.

Where can PRF be used — and what does it treat best?
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is one of our favorite natural biostimulators because it’s so versatile — and 100% you. We draw a small amount of your blood, spin it to concentrate the growth factors, and use that golden serum to stimulate collagen, improve skin tone, and support healing in key areas.
Here’s where we love to use it:
- Under the eyes: PRF gel is one of our go-to treatments for softening hollowing, dark circles, and crepey texture. It adds gentle volume and helps improve skin quality over time — without looking puffy or overfilled.
- In the cheeks: PRF can be injected into the mid-face to support skin density, smooth fine lines, and restore a more rested, refreshed look. It pairs beautifully with filler for a more regenerative, long-term lift.
- With microneedling: In our signature Plump & Glow microneedling treatment, it's common to include PRF to supercharge collagen production. The growth factors penetrate deeper through the microchannels, helping to firm, brighten, and refine your skin with little downtime.
Because PRF is completely natural and regenerative, it’s ideal for patients who want subtle, progressive improvement with minimal risk and no synthetic additives.

Is there anything I should do before or after my biostimulator appointment?
Before treatment, we recommend avoiding alcohol, NSAIDs, and supplements that can thin your blood (like fish oil) to reduce the risk of bruising.
After treatment, follow any aftercare instructions provided — especially with Sculptra, which may include massaging the area for a few days to help the product distribute evenly.

Is there downtime after Radiesse?
Downtime after Radiesse is minimal. You may experience mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness for a few days, but most patients return to normal activities right away. Hyperdilute Radiesse (used for skin tightening and texture) tends to have even less downtime than full-volume treatments.
Is there downtime after Sculptra?
Sculptra has little to no downtime. You may have some mild swelling or bruising, but this is typically minimal. Results build gradually over several months as your body produces collagen — which means you’ll notice a natural-looking improvement that gets better with time.
Is PRF considered a biostimulator?
Yes — PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) uses your body’s own growth factors to stimulate collagen, heal tissue, and improve skin tone and texture.
