Microneedling

April 27, 2026

You've probably heard the word "microneedling" in skin care conversations and for good reason! It is one of the best all around treatments for skin health. Learn what to expect during a session, who is a good candidate, and why we recommend a series of three.

Best for: collagen loss, fine lines, skin texture, acne, scarring, and mild hyperpigmentation

Treatment areas: face, neck, chest, even hands!

Downtime: Approximately one to three days, expect redness similar to a mild sunburn and avoid sun exposure during this time.

Starting price : Single sessions at Natural State Aesthetics are $350, and series pricing is available at a discounted price and highly recommended at $1200.

What Is Microneedling  and Why Does It Work?

Microneedling uses a precision device with ultra-fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries across the surface of the skin. Those tiny injuries might sound alarming, but they're actually the whole point: your body responds by activating its natural healing and stimulates the treated area to induce collagen and elastin creation. The result is skin that becomes smoother, firmer, and more even over time because your skin was given the signal to repair and rebuild.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate?

Almost anyone looking to improve their skin's overall quality is a candidate for microneedling. Microneedling is safe for all skin tones and types, which sets it apart from many laser treatments that carry higher risks for darker complexions.

You're likely a great fit if you're noticing the early signs of aging like fine lines and loss of firmness, dealing with acne scarring or post-inflammatory marks, experiencing uneven texture, dullness, or enlarged pores, or wanting a proactive treatment to maintain healthy collagen levels before more significant changes occur. We do recommend waiting until any active acne breakouts are calm before treating, and we'll always do a thorough consultation to make sure your skin is ready for treatment or if another option is better for your goals.

Why We Recommend a Series of Three

A single microneedling session still has great value and many patients leave with a noticeable glow within 24 hours. But real, lasting transformation happens in layers, and collagen remodeling is a continual process.

After each treatment, your skin begins producing new collagen, but that production peaks around two to four weeks post-session and continues developing for up to six months. When you complete a series of three treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart, each session builds on the last. This will compound the collagen response and address deeper layers of concern that a single pass simply cannot reach.

For texture and tone improvements, one session is a great start. For acne scarring, significant collagen loss, or more advanced skin concerns, a series is the standard of care. We offer our series pricing to make this commitment both accessible and worthwhile.

Add PRF

Platelet-Rich Fibrin or “PRF” is the upgrade we offer that will enhance your results. Derived from a small draw of your own blood, PRF is spun in a centrifuge to isolate a concentration of growth factors, platelets, and regenerative proteins unique to you. That preparation is then applied during your microneedling session, allowing the micro-channels to carry those growth factors directly into the deeper layers of skin where they can work best.

The addition of PRF accelerates healing, amplifies collagen production, and improves skin hydration and elasticity in ways that microneedling alone cannot. There are no synthetic additives, nothing foreign introduced to your body. Just your own biology to further your results.

Patients who choose PRF often notice that their skin recovers faster and the results feel more dramatic and longer lasting than microneedling without it.

At Home Microneedling

At home microneedling devices can be tempting for convenience and cost, but they often use thicker, less precise needles and lack the ability to safely target deeper skin concerns. Rolling microneedling devices can tug on the skin and create micro-tears, while stamping tools may be effective but are difficult to sterilize and tend to dull over time. Without proper training, there’s a higher risk of skin damage, infection, and uneven results, especially when sterile technique and appropriate pressure aren’t maintained. Seeking treatment from a trained professional ensures not only safer, more effective outcomes but also a customized approach based on your skin type and goals.

What to Expect: Before, During & After

Before Your Appointment

Arrive with clean skin and avoid retinoids or active exfoliants in the couple days leading up to your session. We'll apply a topical numbing cream prior to treatment to keep you comfortable throughout.

During the Treatment

The microneedling device is moved across the treatment area and most patients describe the sensation as something closer to light sandpaper than actual needles, especially once the numbing cream takes effect. For PRF sessions, a small blood draw happens beforehand so your PRF is freshly prepared and ready to apply. The full treatment typically takes 60 to 75 minutes.

After Your Session

Your skin will look and feel flushed, similar to a mild sunburn for approximately 24 to 72 hours. Sun exposure should be avoided during this window, and we'll provide specific aftercare guidance. Many patients notice an immediate radiance even through the initial redness. Over the following weeks, improvements in texture and tone continue to develop as collagen remodeling gets underway. Full results from a complete series are typically visible within three to six months.
